The MHCC recognizes that in
order to have a thriving and successful community it all begins with education. For the past twenty years the
MHCC has hosted the Step Up To Success Youth Leadership Conference to inspire students to look to the future and
build a vision for themselves and to emphasize that education is the key to a successful future.
The conference is targeted at ninth grade students, which is facilitated by local community leaders and volunteers.
Topics discussed include: Believing in Yourself - Self-Esteem-we have to believe in ourselves even if no one else does;
The Power of Choice - the choices we make will take us closer or further from our goals; The Power of People - People have
the power to bring us down or help us achieve great things; Who's Driving? - Who is in control of your life and Step Up To
Success - Stepping Up requires action from ME, no one can step up for me.
Each year the chamber works
to raise money to award scholarships to worthy recipients. We are blessed to have the Legacy scholarships
available in Midland and strongly encourage students to complete the requirements. However, we recognize that
some students help supplement family income and it is a challenge to complete the volunteer hours. We also
have some adults returning to college that need assistance. The chamber strongly believes that a strong workforce
begins with education.
The chamber also donated money
to Midland College's BEDC in support of people in the community wanting to benefit from the Business Survival
Skills classes provided by BEDC.
MHCC
supports MISD's Partner in Education program. We encourage our members
to mentor students at our partner school, Crockett Elementary.
